Discovered Lilly Singh's videos on Youtube today Oct 24, 2020 and loved them!

Lilly Singh has been around for quite a while but it was only today I saw her videos and loved them. They are exaggerated but funny.

Also saw three shows this week which I liked

1)The American barbecue showdown :  (Netflix) I generally don't watch documentaries or reality shows but I really enjoyed this. The main attraction was that the characters (judges and participants) were NOT 'over-the-top'. The participants were not competitive in a 'cut-throat' way and even gave each other a helping hand and were kind and empathetic when another competitor was feeling low. I had no clue about the intricacies of barbecuing such as the differences in the way different parts of the animal should be cooked, etc. I learnt so much and it really inspired me to explore this type of cooking. The music was great and I also loved the fact that 'clothes' and 'face make-up'  of the participants and judges was low-key... Another thing I loved about this show is that the participants needed a whole lot of creativity, multiple talents related to all aspects of the barbecuing such as maintaining the fire, building the fire pits, guessing about foreign cuisines they were unfamiliar with and and creating based on their guesses and so on.

2) The sounds : (On CBC) this is a Canadian -New Zealand show. Only three episodes have aired till now. What attracted me to this show was the character Esther Ishikawa.  I am fascinated  by her acting/character... her personality or character is different from the ones  usually seen on shows.

(another character of another show I am fascinated by .. a character who's unusual and I believe it's difficult to act like that part is Alexis Rose in Schitt's creek)

3)Pure: (On CBC) This too is a Canadian show (Maybe Canadian-American-Mexican) which is about crime (drug smuggling) in the Mennonite community! Knowing what I know about the Mennonite community, this is an impossible premise!  I have seen all the aired episodes  and waiting for the next.

Poor people have very little...very little choice....or nothing...or no choice at all. Years ago, I did not have the books I wanted to read...the 'English' movies I loved, did not come to Bangalore or I could not go see them as the theatres were too far. I badly wanted to see American and British TV shows but very few could be seen in India. And I saw, loved and enjoyed all that I could get!

Cut now to 2020, Toronto Canada.... Unlimited books...whatever type I want from the Toronto public library. Several shows and movies.. on Netflix, Bell's on demand, etc. Lots of time, thanks to 'work- from-home-due-to-covid' With so much choice and time on my hands, I consider myself as 'rich people' now. Yet,  I am bored and disgruntled and feel listless. I read a few pages of the novels and lose interest.  I watch  very few, select f shows and movies of the umpteen ones available. I also don't have the mood to do chores around the home.

I think I got more joy & excitement;  and felt more gratitude when I was 'poor' and had lesser choices than  I do at present. I now truly believe that 'Having less is More' and 'Having more is actually Less'. What do you think?

Who's the most immoral, unethical person/group in today's world?

number one :the president of China Xi Jinping

number two: Mexican cartels vs Vladimir Putin

number three: heads of various countries of South America, Africa, Asia, eastern Europe

number four: various ruthless CEOs and owners of businesses such as in mining industries, finance, etc.

How to measure the degree of evil?

In terms of :

loss of human life ?(murders or deaths of people affected by the environmental impact of the evil person's businesses, etc)  OR

death, torture and suffering of animals and trees and plants and sea life? OR

suffering and torture of people, birth and suffering of babies impacted even before birth due to the lack of resources or poisoning of their pregnant mothers via drugs, adulterated foods and ineffective, adulterated medicines  OR

permanent damage to the environment caused by their callousness...the politicians who allow the damage to happen by giving in to the bribery of the powerful lobbyists

What causes this extent of evil?

greed: greed for power, wealth, lack of empathy, lack of conscience,

hatred?

jealousy?

anger?

narcissism? autocracy?

shortsighted vision?

the need to conquer feelings of low self-esteem by declaring wars?

arrogance?

Why does this evil continue?

The good people's :

refusal to be safe and not risk their skin through confrontation?

the overwhelming power of the evil vs the lack of unity among the good to come together to conquer evil?

apathy?

sense of helplessness and hopelessness and belief that things cannot change and 'no point in trying'.

depression?

weakness?

Oct 18, 2020 Kensington market

I did it again! The same mistake once again!

I googled 'things to do in Toronto today'   and saw ...."Book sale...Kensington Market...18th October...buy a book while supporting a cause!..." and so on and so forth. We rush off to Kensington and what do we see? No books, no book sale, nothing. Then I realized that this has been cancelled due to COVID but the folks in charge have not bothered to take it off the internet.

I did the same thing another sunday in summer when we rushed off to Nathan Phillips Square for some festival or the other which had been cancelled but not taken off the internet.

As usual, I clicked a few photos. This time, I saw a few really dark graffiti...the artists must have been bitter and angry with the way things have gone this year I suppose.

Above: three broken pieces of concrete, lying on the pavement too had  artwork on them!

I wonder what immense treasure lies behind this graffiti-covered door, with, not one,  not two, not three but four locks on it!

Above and below...seats on the pavement...silver color metal, shaped like bark-covered round wood slices. These were outside a wine shop I believe.

I wonder if there is some meaning behind the gradually closed off face above and below, ot it's 'just' art.

Check out Marcus Garvey on google. Andre Alexander mentioned by name in the grafiti on Spadina near Kensington Market was a graffiti artist, killed by a hit and run driver. Damn her!

Above and below...Is this art done by a native Canadian?

Above...he makes me laugh, he makes me cringe!
That's all for today folks.
Please check out Kensington market for one of a kind coffee shops, restaurants and creative, entrepreneurial  people before gentrification and rising costs push them out and destroy the ambience, unique to this part of the city.

Change over time..in me

I have stopped rating books, TV shows and movies based on how much I "liked" them or "enjoyed" them. I rate them as ...
