Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre June 23, 2021

Visited Wye March Wild life centre today with a friend.

The ticket to enter is per person and not per car. We got a small bag of sunflower seeds with the ticket...apparently finches or chipmunks will feed (eat the sun-flower seeds)  from you hand if you hold them out in your palm and stand still. I did try it. However, my friend could not stay still and the finch approached a few times but did not eat from my palm! Same story with the chipmunk. If you try this, have a friend at a distance with the video ready to be captured...you stand still with the seeds on your palm, your videographer friend stands still and manages to film you with minimum to zero movement and sound.

One can spend a good 3 hours or more here, exploring the trails, marsh, a tower one can climb to look down, birds of prey centre with a few birds in enclosures (bald eagle, 2 hawks, one large owl, etc), white and yellow lotus in the waters &  green frogs too.

Below are a few photos.

Below are two photos of one log house...with greenery on it's roof.

Below is a structure you see right at the entrance.

Above: view from the tower
Below a bridge over the marsh...the marsh is full of beautiful yellow and white lotus.

I did read about several species of birds, reptiles and animals's presence in this place. But only saw these frogs,  a few birds (a peregrine falcon with it's babies and spouse was visible on a nest it had built on a pole with a platform (this pole was in the middle of the marsh.)..you can see it if you take the boardwalk trail. If you are lucky enough to go with binoculars you can see the babies in the nest!

Information boards explained the role of glaciers in the making of this place ; the names of various animals here ( I saw none of them for real except for chipmunks!) such as porcupine, turtles, some other animal I forgot what it is, deer, snakes of at least 6 types, shrews, voles, moles, muskrats, river otter and minks and beavers.

I had a nice time...great weather// short drive as we live 15 minutes away//nice company//not many people...less than 50...not too many mosquitoes...but did see that tiny dot type insect  flying in the thousands but did not get into my eyes as I had my sun glasses.

Planning to explore the nearby places tomorrow such as the Waubaushene beaches!
